Picture
The Professional Development CEU/PLU Conference will be held at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) on March 25, 2013. This promises to be an exciting day filled with a variety of professional development activities and best practices for education professionals to use in any school setting. All persons interested in getting the most up-to-date information on best practices in education will want to attend this conference.
The conference will feature an annual State of Education Address by our AEA Executive Secretary Dr. Henry Mabry, highlighting crucial educational issues. AEA Associate Executive Secretary, Dr. Gregory Graves, will rally the professionals by giving an important charge on some major issues impacting the education industry in the coming months. These issues include, but are not limited to, school safety, immigration laws, professional pay, and performance assessment. The conference will be highlighted by a keynote speaker during the luncheon. Dr. Ronald Thorpe, President and CEO for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards will inspire, motivate and encourage educators with his captivating messages on the mission and future of public education.
The conference will feature informative sessions focusing on the most current issues and trends in improving teaching and learning for all students. Sessions will be presented for those interested in learning about educational technology, bullying prevention, enhancing instruction with iPads, innovative instructional strategies, improving school culture and climate, meeting the needs of diverse learners, resources for instructing students with special needs, and National Board Certification. Additionally, there will be work sessions and forums that focus on grant writing and professional development for education support professionals (ESPs). Participants will earn CEUs toward the renewal of their professional certificates. Activities will also continue at this conference for educators who are working toward earning Professional Learning Units (PLUs) to renew their instructional leader certificate.
A special and exciting module track will be the unveiling of special training for substitute teachers that has been endorsed and supported by the Alabama State Department Board of Education and the Alabama State Department of Education. This track is entitled Excellence in Education: The Journey Continues. Focus: The Substitute Teacher. School systems and schools are encouraged to send teams of teachers, administrators, and substitute teachers to learn the strategies for strengthening the expectations of substitute teachers.
